Dont Study Hard !!!!!!

Study Smart !! Instead of STUDY HARD! xD

I am not trying to indicate that "study hard" is fruitless,
but I am convinced that there are other effective ways to excel academically.
It's nothing wrong to be assiduous and industrious. Nevertheless, I would like to remind you, burying yourself in the books for hours and hours does not guarantee you flying color results. ( I am not trying to be sarcastic here, but it is the truth.)

"Learning is a process similar to building a house. You aren’t fed the complete picture. Limitations on communication prevent the instantaneous transmission of knowledge. Instead you listen to lectures, read textbooks and take painstaking notes to try and comprehend a subject." Quoted from somewhere else.

Aha.. I had found 10 tips to study smart. Hope it will help.

1. Metaphor - Metaphors can allow you to quickly organize information by comparing a complex idea to a simple one. When you find relationships between information, come up with analogies to increase your understanding. Compare neurons with waves on a string. Make metaphors comparing parts of a brain with sections of your computer.
2. Use All Your Senses - Abstract ideas are difficult to memorize because they are far removed from our senses. Shift them closer by coming up with vivid pictures, feelings and images that relate information together. When I learned how to do a determinant of a matrix, I remembered the pattern by visualizing my hands moving through the numbers, one adding and one subtracting.
3. Teach It - Find someone who doesn’t understand the topic and teach it to them. This exercise forces you to organize. Spending five minutes explaining a concept can save you an hour of combined studying for the same effect.
4. Leave No Islands - When you read through a textbook, every piece of information should connect with something else you have learned. Fast learners do this automatically, but if you leave islands of information, you won’t be able to reach them during a test.
5. Test Your Mobility - A good way to know you haven’t linked enough is that you can’t move between concepts. Open up a word document and start explaining the subject you are working with. If you can’t jump between sections, referencing one idea to help explain another, you won’t be able to think through the connections during a test.
6. Find Patterns - Look for patterns in information. Information becomes easier to organize if you can identify broader patterns that are similar across different topics. The way a neuron fires has similarities to “if” statements in programming languages.
7. Build a Large Foundation - Reading lots and having a general understanding of many topics gives you a lot more flexibility in finding patterns and metaphors in new topics. The more you already know, the easier it is to learn.
8. Don’t Force - I don’t spend much time studying before exams. Forcing information during the last few days is incredibly inefficient. Instead try to slowly interlink ideas as they come to you so studying becomes a quick recap rather than a first attempt at learning.
9. Build Models - Models are simple concepts that aren’t true by themselves, but are useful for describing abstract ideas. Crystallizing one particular mental image or experience can create a model you can reference when trying to understand. When I was trying to tackle the concept of subspaces, I visualized a blue background with a red plane going through it. This isn’t an entirely accurate representation of what a subspace is, but it created a workable image for future ideas.
10. Learning is in Your Head - Having beautiful notes and a perfectly highlighted textbook doesn’t matter if you don’t understand the information in it. Your only goal is to understand the information so it will stick with you for assignments, tests and life. Don’t be afraid to get messy when scrawling out ideas on paper and connecting them in your head. Use notes and books as a medium for learning rather than an end result.

The power of negative thinkings!

Negative thinking allows you to plan. You can identify problems before they happen so you can avoid them. A football team has a bunch of substitutes. Why? Can positive thinking tell us that the starting lines up will be fine? That they will go all season without getting hurt, so why bother having a backup?

Computers are another evidence that negative thinking plays a paramount role in our daily lives. You have anti-virus software on your computer (at least I hope you do). Why? Positive thinking tells us everything will be fine. But common sense and negative thinking say that bad things happen to computers every day: viruses, spy wares, hackers. We try to be as proactive as possible to protect ourselves from harm, so we get the firewalls, the hard drive backups and so on.

Why wear seat belts? Positive thinking tells us that we’ll be fine if we just have a good attitude. Negative thinking allows us to look at the dangers of driving and to do something about it. Airbags, seat belts and speed limits are all negative-based things that are good for us. ( It will be another case, if you do these just to prevent catching by police.) -.-

Where is the destination?

Last year,
I had chosen my path.
Wondering whether it was my own decision,
or merely my father's will.

Keep on pushing myself,
passing through examinations after examinations,
chasing every chapters after chapters.
It seems to be a hectic lifestyle,

What is my plan?
Where to further my study?
How is my future?
I'm sorry, I have no idea at all.

A bunch of my seniors,
who excel academically in their STPM,
(CGPA 3.75 or higher)
can't even get their desired courses.
What do you expect?
What can you blame?
It's just because you lack the gene,
which gives the skin color "they" want.

Yes. I have shown great enthusiasm
on actually sigh (sorry, should be actuarial science) .
But, I think the local U cant afford to accommodate me.
(Just like what had happened to my 4As-senior.)

Perhaps,
I should obey the "policy".
Swim to SINGAPORe, and steal knowledge from them.
Eventually, come back to serve my Great Country.

Malaysia International Fireworks Competition 2007

The Fireworks Competition had attracted many hundreds of people of all ages.
Putrajaya was fully occupied by the crowd.
Everyone was busy staking out their strategic spots and waiting in patience.
Puff pUff!
The awesome fireworks had light up the dark, cloudy sky.
The crowd went wild, and joyous atmosphere can be felt.
It is extremely exciting and thrilling to witness the spectacular fireworks,
for more than 20 minutes!!

No doubt,
the fireworks was really fantastic,
but they are too short...
How good if I can freeze the magnificent view!

Perhaps, similarly, life is short too,
We should make it as enjoyable as possible :)
"life is like an ice-cream, enjoy it before it melts."
( :P quite familiar issit? heehee)

War .. again..

Again and again,
it comes again,
It is extremely merciless and brutal,
throw us into a state of unimaginable suffering and agony.

The air is tensed up,
Our legs are fidgeting agitatedly,
and our heart is filled with fear.
We are sharing the same nightmare,
which has plagued us long long ago...

We know,
it is inevitable.

we have to go through it.

We can foresee,
men will grapple in the battlefield.
Either being sacrificed or gaining victory.
No one can escape from the result.
Mercy is never shown.

It is approaching,
and we are compelled to equip ourselves with "weapons".
Intensive trainings are given.
We have to stretch ourselves to the maximum limit,
just like a rubber band, ready to snap at anytime.

Because we know,
we cannot afford to lose the war,
or else, our future will be jeopardized.

No sacrifice, no victory..

never say never

never really confident of himself, he plays down the rumours with a snigger. the rumours that had been circulating and spreading like wildfire in his school, for several weeks now. he shoos away his buddies and others, every single time they asked. don't get me wrong--but never one time did he actually deny these speculations. in fact, he was rather passive about it, always uttering the famous "no comment" line, to shut off those busy bodies.

"these rumours will be gone as soon as the people find someone else to gossip about." he muttered to himself each time the rumours bothered his train of thoughts. as a matter of fact, "bothered" is an understatement. causing havocs and crashing cars in his head, everytime he wondered what if they were true. If. only if they were true, how beautiful would it be. the warm breeze and jazz music in his head were only beginning before they were interrupted abruptly by a sudden surge of pessimism.

"nah. dreams will only remain as dreams. and a frog shall always remain a frog." he reminds himself. such was his realistic perspective on life, for he is never really confident of himself.

but, late at night, when he finds it hard to fall asleep, often times he would stare blankly at the ceiling. pondering and thinking for hours, still he could not figure out a reasonable explanation. its funny that he could solve difficult mathematic sums in such short period of time, yet after many sleepless nights, he still could not explain why,

why he gets tongue- tied and they never get past "hello",
why couldnt he shake this feeling off and move on, like he vowed himself to.

a cloud of confusion rains over him as this feelings grow stronger each time he thought of her.

he decided the only way to stop this craziness, and kill this emotions from within, is to confront her.

20 minutes before the final school bell, still he hasnt got an opportunity to see her face to face. hoping that a chat with her would give him some much needed clarity, he wanted to diminish all hope left in him and shut the voices in his head up, before breaking free from all the confusion.

there she was, walking in such graceful strides with her friends after class. its an oddity that 5 of them were walking together but he only sees her. her beaming smile shines through his heart with such warmth that he forgot how it was to be cold. gazing in awe her every movement, from the bounce of her silky black hair to the sound of her perky voice, all the questions that were troubling him 2 minutes ago had been forgotten. and that wasnt the only thing he had forgotten.

"hey, you wanted to see me?" she broke the silence. for a minute there, he was blank.

still in disbelief that she was actually talking to him, he had trouble remembering what he had intented to say. it only got worse when their eyes met.

"yes, what is it?" she was getting impatient.

"here goes everything!" he thought to himself. a chance to have a clean break from this emotionally draining rumour mill beckoned.

but for some reason, he hesitated. he just could not do it. right at that moment, he knew he was falling for her.

"she loves me, she loves me not, she loves me, she loves me not..."he was on the brink of losing his mind trying to guess what was on hers. then he slapped some sense into himself.

"she s the most beautiful girl in the world. and im just me. it wont happen."he tried to convince himself over and over again, hoping that it would somehow drown out this feeling inside. but then again he s not that naive.

refusing to follow his heart and fall deeper and deeper in love, yet he didnt had the heart in him to deny something so beautiful and promising.

"was she for real? only time will tell. and only if you give yourself a chance to try. because when you never try, you will never know."he rationalize himself.

feeling doubtful and uncertain that true love would ever happen to him, he hesitates. Dithering around in his circle of confusion, while she withers further and further away each day. for he knows clearly that odds are really against them being friends again if this doenst work out. it was a risk. and he wasnt sure it was risk worthwhile taking. both swinging back and forth at the very end of a thread, but still holding on tighly somehow.

fate had its way when they both found each other in amongst the big crowd during marathon day. hand in hand they walked past the starting line. but unlike everyone else, they werent heading for the finish line. slow strolling around the local lake countless times while enjoying each others' company, they didnt really care about the marathon even if there was one million bucks up for grabs.

Although spiderman certainly wasnt exactly the most romantic movie on show, but its who you watch it with that really matters. at times it was awkward when their eyes met despite the thriller that was unfolding on the silver screen ahead of them. they smiled shyly and turned away. they didnt really talk much, but it was comfortable and soothing. like the perfect fit between her hand and his, so comfortable, that he would not mind holding it until the day he dies.

it was a beautiful day. in fact, he would remember this day for as long as he lives. for today was a defining day in his life. he believed. something miraculous happened that very night when the frog in him turned into a prince, as he was loved. and he still is.

Mathematic tiPs?

The 11 Rule

You likely all know the 10 rule (to multiply by 10, just add a 0 behind the number) but do you know the 11 rule? It is as easy! You should be able to do this one in you head for any two digit number. Practice it on paper first!

To multiply any two digit number by 11:

• For this example we will use 54.
• Separate the two digits in you mind (5__4).
• Notice the hole between them!
• Add the 5 and the 4 together (5+4=9)
• Put the resulting 9 in the hole 594. That's it! 11 x 54=594

The only thing tricky to remember is that if the result of the addition is greater than 9, you only put the "ones" digit in the hole and carry the "tens" digit from the addition. For example 11 x 57 ... 5__7 ... 5+7=12 ... put the 2 in the hole and add the 1 from the 12 to the 5 in to get 6 for a result of 627 ... 11 x 57 = 627
